Navigation using skip links and tabs

Skip links and a logical tab order can aid navigation for people using assistive technologies, such as a screen reader. Find out more about this website's accessibility.

    Skip links

If you're using assistive technology to browse this site, skip links are provided at the start of the page to allow you to move quickly to key information, including the primary navigation, secondary navigation or content. The links are not visible in a graphical browser.

    Logical tab order

This website has a logical tab order for navigating without a mouse. Use the tab key on your keyboard to move to the next link or field. Use shift-tab to move backwards, and the enter key to follow links and submit forms. Most browsers support these functions.

If you’re having problems finding the information you need, try:

    • looking on the site map
    • using 'Search', which is located in the top right-hand corner of every page.

To search the site, enter one or more words in the search box and select 'search' (or press the ‘enter’ key on your keyboard).

You don't need to use capital letters because the search function is not case sensitive. Using words such as ‘a’, ‘an’, ‘the’ or ‘of’ won’t improve the search results.

Any documents containing all your search words will be displayed first, followed by documents that contain some of your words.

    Viewing videos

To watch videos on this site, use the controls under the small video screens to play, pause or replay the video.

If you have problems viewing the videos, this may be due to your computer configuration, a security setting, or restrictions on updating plug-in programs. Wherever possible, this site provides an alternative text version of the video content.

    Videos provided with Flash ‘streaming’

Video files are usually large in size, which means they can take some time to download. Usually, you have to wait for all of the file to download before you can play it.

This website ‘streams’ videos. This means the video file is sent to your computer in small ‘packets’. Each ‘packet’ of video plays as it arrives, so you may experience some delays between the arrival of the ‘packets’, particularly if you are using a low access modem (56K). Wherever possible, this site provides a downloadable version of video content as an alternative to streaming video.

    How to play streaming Flash

You need a Flash player installed on your computer to view streaming Flash video. Flash players are free. You can download and install Flash players from websites such as the Get Adobe Flash Player website, which also provides help using the Flash Player plug-in.

    Download video

To watch downloaded video files (WMV format) you will need Windows Media Player. Most personal computers already have this player installed. If you're a Macintosh user, you can download a Macintosh version.

I can't get the video to play at work or school

Often school and work computers are behind a firewall, which may block streaming video or stop it from playing properly. If you want to view the video you'll need to ask your network administrator (or IT person) for permission.
